SecureSteve QuBIT:

Personally, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a number of years of my career on the vendor side of the house. I can say without a doubt that these 10 items are absolutely spot-on with respect to determining the strength/maturity of a vendor partnership.

So many times a vendor will advertise a feature, integration, or partnership, and will have all sorts of press and collateral around it. The number of PowerPoint slides that I’ve seen is astounding. However, when a customer attempts to find more formal details (product documentation, release notes, support details) they frequently find nothing.

Security vendors are certainly incentivized to “sell” their products. These sales pitches almost always include an excellent story. However, major chasms between the high-level description and the actual technical specifics are frequently tossed aside as “engineering detail the technical team can handle up on after the fact”. No doubt, some details are minor. Some are definitely not.

A CISO and InfoSec executives cannot be expected to know and be privy to all details of a cybersecurity partnership. However, this list by Louis Columbus provides an excellent framework to help find out if your partnerships are truly set up for success.
